Infrared Asphalt Repairs are Best for Seamless Overlays of New and Existing Asphalt

Gaddes Strategic, LLC recently completed an infrared asphalt job for a fire protection systems contractor in Murfreesboro, TN, which needed an infrared asphalt patch after installing a fire sprinkling system for a Bar in Murfreesboro that was relocating to the Old Judicial Building near the Historic Courthouse in the Downtown Square. To install the fire sprinkling system, they had to dig a trench to get to the water tap in the street and tap the water.

The Fire Protection Systems Contractor in Murfreesboro, TN, chose Gaddes Strategic LLC because of their experience in infrared asphalt repair and their use of quality equipment and materials.

The trench repair project required an infrared asphalt heater to create a seamless finish. Crushed stone, Bituminous Binder, and hot asphalt topping were used to fill the trench. A lute rake was used to finalize leveling, followed by a steel drum roller for compaction. A track steer was used to pour the hot asphalt in the trench, remove steel plates, and broom the area with a street sweeper attachment. Lastly, a dump truck was used to haul hot asphalt and haul away damaged asphalt and other debris or materials.

The Infrared Asphalt Patching Process: A Project Overview

Gaddes Strategic, LLC, had to keep one lane open near The Square on North Maple Street. Once the street was correctly marked off with cones to keep anyone from getting in the damaged area, a track steer was used to remove the steel plates to allow the crew access to the trench. The crew broomed to clean the area.

Gaddes Strategic, LLC, filled the trench 3′ by 40′ and 9″ deep with asphalt binder followed by 2″ hot asphalt topping and luted. Once luted, a steel drum roller was used for compaction. Lastly, the crew infrared the seams for a seamless infrared asphalt patch and compacted them with a steel drum roller, creating a nice smooth finish.

On a project, something always causes adversity or requires a change of plans.

Next door, but in the same Old Judicial Building near the Historic Courthouse in Downtown Square, another renovation project was going on for a local Saloon specializing in American-made Beers, Wines, and Spirits, as well as providing the best in country music, was getting a water tap installed. (For more info on the two locations moving to the Old Judicial Building near the Historic Courthouse in the Downtown Square, click here) Furthermore, the bar also needed a water tap, making two trenches that needed infrared asphalt repair on North Maple Street within 10 feet of one another.

Codes say if two trenches are within 10 feet of one another and the asphalt toppings touch, you have to combine the toppings. This made the project 11′ wide by 46′ across the street.

The total job ended up being 11′ wide by 46′ going across the street. In addition, two diagonal stripes had to be down. Because the trench went across the street, the crew had to consistently do one side of the road simultaneously to keep one lane open for traffic flow. We were happy to complete the job and pass the inspection.

Benefits of Infrared Asphalt Patching

Here are several benefits of infrared asphalt repair. First, there’s no risk separating the asphalt from the aggregate underneath as the infrared technology rays create seamless deep penetrating heat. Infrared asphalt repair is a great solution that is durable, long-lasting, can stop further damage, and withstand heavy traffic, which is essential for a street patch.

Another benefit of infrared asphalt repair is that it eliminates the chance of burning or scaling the existing surface. In addition, it provides a more cost-effective solution to other asphalt issues like potholes, divots, cracks, pooled water, and heaving.
